Lieutenant Colonel George Finck
Lt. Colonel George C. Finck, USAF, Retired, spent 22 years of active
service in the United States Air Force. He is a command pilot with over
11,000 hours flying time in transport aircraft that included the C-118,
C-54, C-131, C-7A, T-29, and KC-135 type aircraft.
He is a Vietnam veteran where he logged 1150 hours of combat aerial
resupply time in the C-7A aircraft supporting the special forces in the
central highlands. He was awarded the Air Force Cross for extraordinary
heroism in the face of an armed enemy for action in Vietnam. He also was
awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with five oak
leaf clusters.
He served in MATS, TAC, SAC, AFLC and the United States Strike Command.
His last assignment was Professor of Aerospace Science at Bowling Green
University in Ohio. He retired from the Air force in 1978.
Following retirement, he established and taught Air Force Junior ROTC at
a Haughton High School from 1980-1996. His AFJROTC unit was the largest
in the nation during a six year period and his unit established records
for the number of ROTC scholarships and military academy appointments
awarded to his cadets.
He retired from the school system in 1996. He is currently past
president and a director of the Ark-La-Tex chapter of the Military
Officers Association of America where he serves as scholarship chairman
and letters to the front chairman. He is active in the American Legion
as 4th District oratorical contest chairman as well as Americanism and
Boys State chairman for Post #202. He is a life member of the American
Legion, VFW, DAV and the Legion of Valor. He is a member of the Bossier
Sheriff' s Posse, the Daedalians, the Air Force Association and Bossier
Noon Optimist Club. Colonel Finck is a former member and Past President
of the Bossier Parish School Board where he represented District #3.
He and his wife, Jan, live in Benton, LA. They have four sons, four
grandchildren, four great-grandsons and a greatgranddaughter.
