Lieutenant Colonel James R. Hope

Lt. Col. James R. "Jim" Hope USAF Ret. of Dewy Rose South Carolina, died Saturday, January 5 at his home.  Born on December 2, 1935 in Barnsdall OK, he was the son of the late Jack C. Hope and Ruth Crow Hope. Lt. Col. Hope enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953 and over his 24 year career he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. At his retirement in 1976 he was serving as an Air Operations officer.  During his career Lt. Col. Hope served in the Korean war where received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. He also served in the Vietnam War (536th TAS) where he received The Air Medal, The Bronze Star, and The Air Force Commendation Medal.

Lt. Col Hope was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife: Naomi Cordell "Pete" Hope of the home; two sons: Lt. Col. Jimmy Hope USAF Ret. and his wife Seba of Alvaton KY and Dwain Williams and his wife Sherry of Dewy Rose; a daughter: Diane Moon and her husband Mike of Anderson SC; a brother: Bill Hope and his wife Jan of Bowling Green KY; a sister: Janit Marie Galin of Oceanside CA; six grandchildren: USAF Cadet Jason Hope, Rebecca Hope, Alicia Hope, Elizabeth "Liz" Moon, Michael Moon and Adrianne Williams also survive. Mr. Hope was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson: Adam P. Morris. Funeral sere held Monday, January 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Carter Tucker and Rev. John Silver officiating. Burial was in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with full military honors.
