Edward Mednansky, 78, of Carrollton, GA died Monday, April 4, 2016 at his home. A funeral service was held in the Chapel at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home, on Monday, April 11, at 10 a.m. Burial immediately followed at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will greeted friends and relatives at a visitation on Sunday, April 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Highway. Edward was born September 8, 1937 in Kadoka, South Dakota to Mike & Emma (Michaletz) Mednansky. He married Sigrid Deanne Floe while in the military. They had 3 children: Daughter Marlene Emma Mednansky of Moose Lake, Minnesota, son & daughter in-law Edward Mike & Patty Mednansky of McGregor, MN, and daughter Katherine Hilda (Mednansky) Stariha of McGregor, Minnesota. Throughout his Air Force career the family lived in numerous states and in England. TSGT Edward Mednansky retired after 20 Years of service. He received many honors including, the Distinguished Flying Cross for safely landing a C-130 successfully after it was severely damaged by ground fire. He was a Member of the C-7A Caribou Association [4449th 1967] and a life time member of the VFW. He made many dangerous and exciting missions, including several landings to Area 51. After serving his country he retired to the family's cabin in the woods on Lake Minnewawa in McGregor, Minnesota. In 1977, he met his 2nd wife Verna L. Anderson and stepson David. In 1978, Ed started a second career to become a Certified Aeronautics Mechanic. During which time he married his 3rd wife in 1984, Patricia Jeanne Nicholas and stepson Kris. They lived for many years in Iowa Park, Texas, where he worked for Sheppard Air Force Base as a civilian until his 2nd retirement. Ed's passion in life was being a pilot, flying his airplanes, and working on them. Ed's passion became a full time reality when he moved to Carrollton, Georgia to own a home that provided a pilots' runway & airplane hangar right in his own backyard. It was his dream come true, with the added bonus of living in a community of many pilot friends. Ed loved to take road trips, where he would go hunting with his family & friends. He attended family reunions every June in his childhood hometown, Kadoka, South Dakota. Uncle Ed was a favorite of many. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia Mednansky, five brothers: John, Michael (infant), Clarence, Frank and Art. And six sisters: Albina Mowery, Clara Pearson, Helen Boyd, Elizabeth (infant), Alice Mednansky and Evelyn (as a child), and a grand-daughter, Karina Deanne Mednansky. Survivors include his brother Ervin "Buddy" Mednansky of Bandera Texas, and sister, Gladys Lien of Irene, South Dakota, his 3 children, 2 stepsons, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren & numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Halcyon Hospice: 327 Westview Drive, Villa Rica, Georgia 30180
