Melton This comes from Dan Clancey: My close friend, Captain Edgar Robert Melton of Dallas, was one of the pilots killed in the C-5 "Babylift" crash. He arrived in country with me in early January 1969 and DEROSED with me on December 24, 1969 after serving as an aircraft commander in the 535th. We were then stationed together at Mather AFB at the Nav school until Bob was assigned to the United States Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was later assigned to a C-5 unit at Travis AFB and was in the process of checking out in the C-5 when he was killed. |
