Richard C. “Dick” Obets, SMSgt, USAF (Retired), 536th 1968 Dick Obets died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 in Abilene. He was 73. He was burial with full military honors will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Friday, May 12, 2006. Mr. Obets was born on April 29, 1933 in Smithville and married Sami Lyn Sparks on December 29, 1955 in Alice. He served in the USAF for 25 years making two tours in Vietnam and working as a Flight Engineer for C130s in the 772 Tactical unit. After retirement, he continued working with C130’s for 3 years in Saudi Arabia and then returned to Abilene working numerous years for both Davis Coffee Company and DeCoty Coffee Company. He was a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was an avid hunter, a proud American, and a dedicated family man. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sami of Abilene; his daughter, Carolyn Wilson of Abilene; three grandchildren, who lovingly called him G Daddy, Richard D. Wilson, Kristyn Layne Wilson and Kaitlyn Rivers Wilson all of Abilene; one sister, Ginger Needles and husband Bart of Illinois; a brother in law, Jack C. Butler of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved family pets. |
