Major Wilbert J. Wetzel

Major Wilbert James Wetzel, Jr., age 78, of Gulf Shores died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012.

Major Wetzel, a retired U.S. Air Force pilot, was born in New Orleans, on June 8, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert James and Ilma Mollere Wetzel; and his wife, Adele “Dell” Weber Wetzel. Survivors include his sons, Gary (Janet) Wetzel of Robertsdale, AL and James (Melissa) Wetzel of Spanish Fort, AL; daughter, Susan Wetzel of Santa Monica, CA; sister, Mary (John) Collins of Niceville, FL; brother, Kelly (Cathey) Wetzel of Pagosa Springs, CO and 3 grandchildren.

 A visitation was held for Wetzel at Pine Rest Funeral Home from 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, with the funeral service following directly at 10 a.m. in the Pine Rest Chapel. Burial with Air Force honors, followed in Pine Rest Memorial Park.
